Let quantity of milk = m

Let quantity of water = w

From condition 1

m/w = 5/2

i.e. 2m = 5w .... (1)

From condition 2

m/(w+14) = 2/5

i.e. 5m = 2w+28 .... (2)

Multiplying equation (1)×5 & (2)×2

10m = 25w .... (3)

10m = 4w + 56 .... (4)

Subtracting (4) - (3)

-21w +56 =0

i.e. 21w = 56

w = 56/21

Substituting value of 'w' in equation (1)

2m = 5× 56/21 = 5 × 8/3 = 40/3

m = 40/6 = 20/3

m = 6.66 litres

Hence quantity of milk in original mixture is 6.66 litres
